Who Should Apply

All citizens of India who are not permanent residents or indigenous persons of Nagaland must acquire an Inner Line Permit prior to entering Nagaland.

In order to acquire an ILP, it is compulsory for all individuals who do not fall into any of the following categories to apply for an ILP:

1. Indigenous Persons of Nagaland

Individuals who are indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland and its direct descendants and other native residents do not have to acquire an ILP.

2. Non-Indigenous Women Married to Indigenous Men

Non-indigenous women who are married to indigenous men of Nagaland and reside in Nagaland do not have to acquire an ILP.

3. Members of Security Forces Posted in Nagaland

The members of the security forces posted in Nagaland and their families do not have to acquire an ILP during their period of posting and stay in Nagaland.

4. State or Central Government Employees Serving in Nagaland

Regular and permanent government employees of State or Central Government departments serving in Nagaland and their families do not have to acquire an ILP during their period of posting and stay in Nagaland.

5. Retired Government Employees Married to Indigenous Persons

Retired State or Central Government Employees who have settled in Nagaland permanently through marriages to indigenous persons are not required to obtain a permit.

6. Government Advocates

Government Advocates and Defense Panel Advocates appointed by the Government, together with their families, are exempt while in Nagaland on duty.

7. Employees of Government Undertakings

Employees of Government Undertakings, corporations, and organizations, together with their families, are exempt while in Nagaland on duty.

8. Persons Invited by the Government

Persons or groups of persons formally invited in writing by the Government or Government Undertakings and issued an official ILP Exemption Certificate are not required to obtain a permit to enter Nagaland.
